GPS Status from the Coast Guard
Official operation status of the Global Positioning System as stated by the U.S. Coast Guard's Navigation Information Service (NIS) at http://www.navcen.uscg.gov is based on input from the GPS Control Segment, U.S. Department of Defense and other sources in accordance with the Federal Radionavigation Plan (FRP) and with the Federal Radionavigation Systems (FRS) Document  required by 10 U.S.C. 2281 (c ).  The FRP is the official source of radionavigation policy and planning for the Federal Government.  The FRS covers common-use radionavigation systems, including sections relating to government roles and responsibilities, user requirements, and system descriptions. The NIS Website also provides the user with information on policy changes or developments about radionavigation systems, especially GPS, such as, for example, automatically disseminating GPS status and outage information through a listserver.  The NIS also acts as the single focal point for non-aviation civil users to report problems with GPS.
